Timex Ironman Men’s Race Trainer Heart Rate Monitor with Data Xchanger Watch, Black/Grey, Full Size

  • I had been using a Timex for several years, and was very happy with it until it started malfunctioning. I went looking for a new one, comparing Polar, Suunto, and then later Timex. My two primary concerns were quality, a diffuse set of factors, and the ability to work with an Apple running Mac OS X. Only some of Polar’s and Suunto’s watches work with a Mac, and then only with external software. I was surprised when I found Timex’s Ironman Trainer packages also worked with Apple.

    Provisos:

    - A sleek light watch, that fits my wrists – I have proportionately slender wrists, although I’m fairly large – but might be unusable on men with large wrists.

    - Works for PC’s, but did not work on apple’s OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

    - Data management is done on a website, requiring registration

    Pros:

    - Looks great

    - Easy to use, although it has many features

    - Reliable (assumed from my long-term experience with other Timex watches)

    - Inexpensive (the cost was $50 less than advertised elsewhere, and much less than comparable Polar/Suunto watches)

    - User-exchangeable battery (some Polar/Suunto models require shipping for battery replacement)

    - Works nicely with PC’s with a free account with Training Peaks, an effortless installation and upload to the third-party site.

    Cons:

    - I have an Apple running OS X 10.6, a 64-bit operating system. The USB device was not recognized properly, although it seems to be working after installing the drivers. The problem, is that the Timex Data Adaptor software does not load, even when set to run as 32-bit (Rosetta), hence I can not download/upload data.

  • Awesome product. I have owned several different brands of HRM and this watch for the price is the best to date. I had the watch up and going after work in time for my nightly workout. The Xchanger delayed me a bit with Windows 7, but I resolved that within a short time. The Timex website will track progress and apprears to be very complete. I have been using serveral other site to store this information. Great job Timex, this could be the part of my workout that I am missing.

  • I received the watch today and was enjoying the features. However, the PC data link does not work. The watch cannot find the PC and I cannot find any help. Could just be me, but I have tried reading all I can and still the USB wireless connection is useless. The driver installed without any issues, but will not function as advertised. The Manual points to a Link for the software that is dead.

    Anyone else?
