Anyone Ever Used One Of Those “at Home Fetal Heart Monitors”?

Has any one ever used one and if so, how soon will I be able to hear the heart beat? I am 10 weeks preg. and havent heard anything yet but a bunch of growls… I go to the Dr on the 19th and he says I will hear the heartbeat then..

I bought one and could never find the heartbeat, so in my opinion it was not worth the money!

I have the BebeSounds Prenatal Delux Gift set that someone bought for me. This one allows you to listen to, talk to, play music for, record the sounds and record your own heart beat for later use.
I am 23 weeks today and still have yet to hear a heartbeat. I do hear the kicks though, loud and clear.
The product states that you MAY be able to hear the heart beat later in your 2nd trimester but it works best during the 3rd trimester, which obviously I havent quite reached yet.
I tried talking to her for the first time Friday and she reacted to it very quickly, infact, it was the first time I had ever felt her move.
So, in answering your question, I havent yet heard the heartbeat with the monitor, but I have heard other sounds.
10 weeks is really early to try an at home fetal heart monitor and expect results. However, the doctor should have no problem finding the heartbeat with his equipment. Thats because his doppler equipment amplifies it. I heard mine for the first time at about 12 weeks, I was late getting in there and trying to hear it.
I also know that around 20 weeks or so you should be able to hear the babys heart beat with a stethoscope. Of course that isnt true for everyone but I would suggest trying it first before venturing out to spend money on an at home monitor.
I wish you the best of luck and congrats on the little one!

Yes, my husband bought me one and we used it. Don’t waste your money! The instructions say that you won’t be able to hear anything until very late in the 2nd trimester or early in the 3rd…we never heard anything, even days before I popped!! Plus it gives you something to look forward to at the doc’s office….!

  • LogansMo:

My friend had one and said it isn’t really worth the money, you can’t hear anything till late in the pregnancy.

I tried two different ones…they don’t work well. The first was a cheap 20$ one, the next was 45$ and more advanced. I think I heard a heartbeat once…maybe. But, at the doctor, it was always loud and clear! They’re just glorified stethescopes. Try to find one at a second hand place if you can and try it out before you buy it…

if its the bebe sound moniter it really sucks and i would take it back. I couldnt hear my babies heartbeat on it at all and i tried all the way until i hit 39 weeks pregnant and not a thing. I have a healthy baby boy now though so obviously there was a heartbeat = )

unless you buy a high quality one, you might never hear the heartbeat with one of those, or it might not be until you are very far along.. i have an angelsounds one at my house, and am 21 weeks.. i have yet to hear the heartbeat with it.. even though her heartbeat is a strong 154 most of the time!

I used an AngelSound doppler with by first pregnancy and could clearly hear my baby’s heartbeat at 11 weeks. I also could record the heartbeat which is great.
Now I’m pregnant again and coulnd’t hear anything yet at 11 weeks. It probably depends on the baby’s and placenta’s location in the uterus if and when you can hear anything.
I used olive oil as the conductor liquid.

That’s the monitor I used and was able to hear my baby at about 15 weeks. It was great cuz I was able to record the sound.

  • SAHM of 2:

Yes I agree with another answer here- do NOT buy Bebe sounds fetal listener, it is a piece of crap which does not work. So hopefully you haven’t already purchased one :-)
It seems to magnify every sound in the room EXCEPT your baby’s heart beat. Hope you have better luck with whatever gadget you have.

  • presley:

i was able to hear the baby at 13 weeks at home.. it take some work to locate the heartbeat but you will become a expert soon

  • lorenzo and lily's mommy:

i bought one of those and returned it the next day…. i was 25 weeks, ya BIG ENOUGH to Hear of course but only heard kicks.

  • Em Malik:

I have used them and you dont start hearing things till your atleast 28wks. It depends on the brand and how strong it is. The product should tell you though when you should hear the heartbeat.

  • sgchick1:

i have one, i tried it with my son, but it didn’t work very well for me. however at around 14-15 weeks i would say your chances will be better
remember at 10 weeks your baby is still below your pelvic bone
    good luck and congrats

Don’t waste your money on one of those cheap ones from the store. If you really want one, rent a doppler. It’s just like the one the doctor has. I got mine at 13 weeks and could hear the heart beat when I used it myself. My doctor could hear it starting at 10 weeks. It takes a little practice, so don’t stress out if you can’t hear it right away. Just practice. I got mine from babyfm.com It cost about $30 a month, but you have to keep it for 2 months. They are high quality and work as well as the ones the doctors have. I would definitely recommend it. Good luck!
